对卫星跟踪摄影的光学仪器。它的用途是精确测量卫星的运行轨迹。它以恒星为背景对卫星进行跟踪或固定摄影：对较亮的卫星（1～6等）用固定方式拍照，对较暗的卫星（6等以下）用跟踪方式拍照。跟踪摄影时卫星呈点像，而恒星呈拖痕，须利用快门将拖痕截出断口，用作测量标志。在断口中央时刻，快门产生光电脉冲信号，输给记时仪记录。事后测量底片上卫星与恒星影像的相对位置，根据已知恒星的精确坐标推算出卫星在摄影时刻的赤经和赤纬，进而确定卫星的轨道。人造地球卫星跟踪摄影机由望远镜系统、摄影机、基架和伺服机构和记时仪组成。望远镜大都采用施密特光学系统，它具有光力强、视场大和像差小的优点。基架大都采用地平式装置,又可分为框架式和叉式两种。典型的人造地球卫星跟踪摄影机的记时精度已达1毫秒，测角精度达1～2 角秒。现代有的人造地球卫星跟踪摄影机上加装有远程激光测距仪，可以同时获得距离信息（见光学跟踪测量系统）。
