公元前 1世纪的希腊历史学家。出生在西西里岛。他用了30年时间编写的《历史文库》，实际是从远古到凯撒征服高卢（公元前54年）的一部地中海沿岸各民族的通史。全书40卷，完整保存下来的只有第1至5卷和第11至20卷。除政治历史外，这部著作还提供了有关当时的社会组织和风俗习惯的情况，并涉及文学艺术。他主要转述前人的著作，对史料很少持批判态度，因此，他的著作的价值主要在于保存了某些失传的史料，内容丰富而庞杂，象一部历史百科全书，但缺乏史家的严格态度，也很难见到作者一贯的见解。
