皕宋楼为晚清中国四大藏书楼之一,1907年,其藏书尽归日本岩崎氏静嘉堂文库,成为日本国宝级"重要文化财",时人叹之为"文化史之惨祸"。

The western missionaries started the libraries in China,which broke the configuration of Chinese traditional storage buildings,brought about the construction thoughts,managerial modes and classifying methods of the western library,and the concepts of the publicity,opening and sharing,and promoted the transformation from the ancient storage buildings to the modern libraries.
西方传教士在中国开办图书馆,打破了中国传统藏书楼的格局,带来西方图书馆的建设思想、管理方式和分类法以及公开、开放与共享的观念,促进了古代藏书楼向近代图书馆的转变。
补充资料：《皕宋楼藏书志》
中国清代末期"四大藏书家"之一──归安陆心源(1834～1894)与其门人李宗莲合编的藏书目录， 120卷，《续志》 4卷。皕宋楼为陆心源藏书楼之一。收录陆氏所藏宋、元、明三代旧刻精钞并为世所罕见者 600余种。每书除记书名、卷数、版刻及撰人姓名外，并详录书中序跋，间录藏章印记；宋、元两代刊本则备载行款缺笔，以便考核；《四库全书总目》未著录之书，更附以题解，是一部仿元代马端临《文献通考·经籍考》等书体例的辑录体的藏书目录。传世有光绪八年(1882)陆氏10万卷楼刻本。陆氏藏书已于1907年全部转售于日本岩崎氏静嘉堂文库。
