中国园艺学家。1904年11月11日生于浙江省杭州市。1927年毕业于金陵大学农学院果树专业，1937年获英国伦敦大学研究生院园艺学博士学位，并被推荐为英国皇家学会会员。其后，应聘到美国康奈尔大学果树系和加州大学洛杉矶分校柑橘系任副研究员。1938年回国，曾任金陵大学果树学教授兼研究部主任，西北农学院教授兼院长。1949年后历任武汉大学农学院教授、园艺系主任，华中农学院教授、国艺系主任、副院长。是中国园艺学会第二、三届副理事长，湖北省科协名誉主席，国际柑橘学会第四、五届执行委员，湖北省第五、六届政协副主席。先后主持选育出许多柑橘良种，如"锦橙26号"、"先锋橙20号"、早熟"国庆 1号蜜柑"等。他热心科普事业，经常深入农村，先后培训果农达数万人次。由于他在科普事业上的贡献,1985年曾在中国科协农村科普工作先进集体、先进个人表彰会上获重奖。撰有学术论文70余篇，专著有《新鲜果实包装贮藏运销学》(1954)、《柑橘：生产技术与科学实验》(1977)、《现代果树生产技术》(1987)，主编《果树研究法》(1979)、《中国柑橘冻害研究》（1982）、《英汉园艺学词典》(1987)等。
