中国有机化学家。1902年 5月23日生于河南省舞阳县。1927年毕业于美国华盛顿大学。1931年春于美国伊利诺伊大学获博士学位。回国后任中央大学化学系教授、系主任。1949年后，历任南京大学化学系教授、理学院院长、教务长和副校长，中国化学会理事、副理事长。1981年当选为中国科学院化学部学部委员。在有机合成、有机反应和二酮的研究方面,取得了一些重要成果,并在立体化学和化学反应机理等方面做了许多研究工作，例如环丁烷衍生物的合成新方法;2,4,6－三甲苯二酮的合成；1,6－二酮和1,7－二酮的成环反应，以及1、7－二酮的酮－环醇互变异构等。发表论文20余篇。
