也叫节足动物。是一类身体由很多结构各不相同、机能也不一样的环节组成的动物。通常可分为头、胸、腹等3部分，但有些种类胸部和头部合在一起，也有些种类胸部和腹部没有分化，还有些种类全身愈合，不分头、胸、腹。节肢动物身体表面有由几丁质生成的坚厚的外骨骼。一般每个体节上都有着一对分节的附肢，又叫节肢。节肢的运动极其灵活，主要用于爬行和游泳。节肢动物在动物界中的种类最多，占已知动物的85%，达100多万种，而且每种的数目多得惊人。例如一个蜂群，总数可达5万多个。节肢动物身体的分化，以及身体变化的多样性，使它获得了高度的适应性，几乎在地球上任何空间都可以找到节肢动物。常见的有蜈蚣、虾、蟹、蜘蛛以及各类昆虫等。
