（术语）通教之通有三种之别：一因果俱通，三乘同依于体空无生之理（是因通），而断惑证理（是果通）是三乘共学之义。通教之当分也。二因通果非通，是就三乘中之菩萨而分别之，通教之菩萨，有利钝之二种。钝根之菩萨，属于前之第一种，因果俱通也，若利根之菩萨者，七地以前，三乘皆断证，故云因通。七地已后，或为别教所接（此云别接通），或为圆教所接（此云圆接通），各依中道之理而修证，即别圆之人，故谓之果非通。是但就利根之菩萨而立通前通后之义也。此通前通后之义与前三乘通学之义正为通教之教意也。三通别通圆，此为藉通开导。藉通开导者，本为别圆之机，而由一类之人，闻通教当体即空之说而修证，遂为别圆之人，故谓之藉通开导。谓为通教之所说开导而为别圆也。是为本来别圆之机，故与第二被接之人异。故非正为通教之机类，但就闻通教上立此一类。见四念处二。
