   一种强碱。化学式NaOH,白色固体 。又称苛性钠、烧碱。熔点318.4℃,沸点1390℃,相对密度2.13,有强吸湿性,在水中的溶解度很大,100克水能溶解109克氢氧化钠,在空气中容易吸收二氧化碳,生成碳酸钠,使纯度降低。最突出的性质是强碱性和强腐蚀性,能溶解某些非金属(如硫、磷、硅)、金属(如铝)及它们的氧化物(如二氧化硅、氧化铝)。氢氧化钠对人体皮肤以及玻璃、陶瓷都有腐蚀性。最早的制法是用碳酸钠和石灰水作用,此法已被淘汰。后来主要采用电解氯化钠水溶液的方法,其中隔膜法是用石棉隔膜将阴、阳两极分开,以避免氯气与产品氢氧化钠作用,使产量降低,此法优点是生产率高、价格便宜,但纯度不高。汞阴极电解法以石墨为阳极,汞为阴极,得钠汞齐与水作用,生产氢氧化钠,产品纯度高,缺点是汞会造成污染。氢氧化钠用于生产肥皂、纸浆,还用于石油、纺织、印染工业。
