    竞技游泳比赛项目之一。游进时身体仰卧,臂腿动作没有规则限制,多用交替划水和交替踢水配合技术。早期仰泳是两臂同时划水和两腿同时夹水配合,称为反蛙泳。由于配合效果不好游速较慢,到1912年第五届奥运会时,美国人H.赫布纳改进技术,用两臂交替划水和两腿交替踢水配合取得成功,至此反蛙泳失去比赛意义。仰泳游进时臀位稍低,游速快时脸和胸部浮出水面,两肩配合划水交替滚动,但头应保持正直控制游动方向,两脚形同摇橹动作交替踢水。每只脚在3次踢水中有一次是斜向交叉动作  ,用以平衡手在体侧划水产生的侧向分力影响。划水可用直臂或屈臂,直臂划水手的路线弧形曲度大,屈臂划水用肘的曲度变化控制前臂和手的姿势与方向,故前进效果优于直臂。划水后段手向后推的同时转向下压并提肩出水,带动手臂出水前移入水,手在体侧划成一个S形曲线,由加速直至出水前移,在入水前减速。屈肘可以更多的利用臂肌力量和更好地控制前臂和手的姿势与方向。仰泳两臂配合交替对称,因此,总有一只手处于划水阶段,但由于身体仰卧限制了肩臂的动作效果,虽然动作结构形同自由泳而游速则慢于自由泳。臂腿配合无论游速快慢都是6次腿,2次臂,换气不受动作结构限制,但也有一定规律。仰泳出发要在水中进行,比赛全程中,除转身过程允许改变姿势外,要始终保持仰卧。转身要求同自由泳,故前滚翻转身技术再度复兴。仰泳技术发展趋向身体平稳流线,起伏摆动应小,划水提前,S形曲度小,划水加速以后推为主,结构和节奏稳定。
