| 人口普查 census 在统一确定的时间地点，按照统一的调查表式、项目和填写方法，由政府组织对全国或一个地区的全部人口的社会、经济特征资料，逐人地进行搜集、整理、汇总、评价、分析和公布的全过程。又称国情普查、国势普查。中国是世界上最早开展人口登记和计算的国家之一。远在夏代就有人口数字的记录。近代，清代末年也曾举行过全国大规模的户口调查 。中华人民共和国建立后 ，1953 年 进行了第一次人口普查，以后又分别在1964年、1982年、1990 年进行过3次人口普查。人口普查工作的核心问题是确定人口范畴，规定标准时间，选择普查项目，拟定调查方法。
