1.谓以武力藩卫。 2.军制名。汉末曹操为丞相，设武卫营。魏文帝置武卫将军以统率禁旅。隋置左右武卫，各置大将军﹑将军。唐因隋制。宋沿其制。元初有武卫军，不久改称侍卫亲军。至元二十六年设武卫亲军都指挥使司，掌管修治城隍等工役，性质与前不同。清末也有武卫军的名称。
