1811年瑞典韦姆兰省年轻的大学生建立的团体。它的目的在开始时不是研究文学，而是发扬爱国主义。他们力图发扬古代哥特人的自由精神、大丈夫气概和坚强不屈的意志。在组织内部有不少类似18世纪盟会的特点：开会叫聚会，盟员用牛角喝酒，彼此用古老的方式问候，还有盟歌等等。他们在最初的一次会议上决定出版杂志《伊杜那》，其首要任务是研究古代，并没有文学方面的纲领。所谓"哥特学派"根本就没有存在过。这个团体在文学上之所以有地位，主要是因为成员中有几个诗人，如泰格奈尔和耶伊尔。哥特同盟俗称"旧派"。
