| 库阿特利（1891～1967） Kuwatli，Shukri al- 叙利亚共和国第一任总统。早年为青年阿拉伯协会领袖之一，积极反对土耳其统治。1915年被土耳其当局逮捕入狱。1925～1927年参加叙利亚反法武装起义。起义失败后，流亡伊拉克。20世纪30年代，他是反对法国统治的民族集团成员。1936年当选为议会议员，并担任国防和财政部长。1939年初由于法国议会拒绝批准1936年法叙条约，库阿特利辞去政府职务。1940年成为民族集团的领导人。1943年7月当选为叙利亚总统。1944年9月参加签订旨在成立阿拉伯国家联盟的《亚历山大议定书》。在他的领导下，1945年初叙利亚加入同盟国，对德宣战。1946年迫使英、法撤军，使叙利亚成为一个独立的主权国家。1949年3月发生军事政变，库阿特利被免除职务，流亡埃及。1955年8月，他再次当选为总统。同年10月他的政府分别同埃及和沙特阿拉伯缔结共同防御条约。1956年11月叙利亚政府为支援埃及抗击英、法和以色列的侵略，断绝了与英、法的外交关系，并切断伊拉克石油公司的油管。1958年2月，叙利亚与埃及合并为阿拉伯联合共和国。1961年9月叙利亚发生军事政变，宣布退出阿拉伯联合共和国。同年，库阿特利移居黎巴嫩。1967年6月30日卒于贝鲁特。 |
