由一组具有不同厚度级差的薄钢片组成的量规（见图）。塞尺用于测量间隙尺寸。在检验被测尺寸是否合格时，可以用通止法判断，也可由检验者根据塞尺与被测表面配合的松紧程度来判断。塞尺一般用不锈钢制造,最薄的为0.02毫米；最厚的为3毫米。自0.02～0.1毫米间,各钢片厚度级差为0.01毫米;自0.1～1毫米间，各钢片的厚度级差一般为0.05毫米；自1毫米以上，钢片的厚度级差为1毫米。
