库奥皮奥大学以其对健康科学和环境科学的研究而著称，下设5个系：商务和信息技术系，医学系，自然与环境科学系，医药学系及社会科学系。在校学生4,700名，本科学生占70%。教职员工1,400人，其中教授130名。库奥皮奥大学提供本科课程，硕士课程，培训课程和成人教育课程。主要研究领域是生物技术，慢性病(如糖尿病等)，心血管病，医药学，营养学，卫生保健等。大学医院内设有14个诊所。
