土地沙漠化沙漠是干旱气候的产物，早在人类出现以前地球上就有沙漠。但是，荒凉的沙漠和丰腴的草原之间并没有什么不可逾越的界线。有了水沙漠上可以长起茂盛的植物，成为生机盎然的绿洲；而绿地如果没有了水和植物，也可以很快退化为一片沙砾。而人们为了获得更多的食物，不管气候、土地条件如何，随便开荒种地、过度放牧；为了解决燃料问题，不管后果如何，肆意砍树割草。干旱和半干旱地区本来就缺水多风，现在土地被蹂躏、植被遭破坏，降水量更少了，风却更大更多了，大风强劲地侵蚀表土，沙子越来越多，慢慢地沙丘发育。这就使可耕牧的土地，变成不宜放牧和耕种的沙漠化土地。
