词话集。编者清代叶申薌(1780～1842),字维彧,号小庚，又号萁园，福建闽县人。嘉庆十四年(1809)进士，官至河南河陕汝道。著有《天籁轩词选》、《词韵》、《小庚词》、《闽词钞》等。
《本事词》分上下两卷,上卷为唐、五代、北宋,下卷为南宋、辽、金、元。书前有序，体例仿唐孟棨《本事诗》,辑录唐至金、元词人的感遇及有关词作轶事,颇简明扼要；但剪裁旧文，不注明出处。所选词作内容大都属于男女恋情或个人抒怀，其中有些流露出消极颓废思想。书中间有辨正，如欧阳修〔生查子〕"去年元夜时"一首，旧传为朱淑真作，编者考辨为欧词。然而其中亦有疏误，如说"眉山程垓正伯,与东坡为中表",乃沿袭杨慎《词品》以东坡中表程正辅为程正伯之误。
此书有道光天籁阁刊本、《词话丛编》本。1957年古典文学出版社排印本，与《本事诗》合印。
