  百合科,贝母属;多年生草本,植株高30—60厘米。鳞茎卵形,粗2—4厘米;鳞茎皮厚膜质,鳞片2—6枚,一年生2枚,二年生与三年生的分别为4枚、6枚,4—5年生的逐年增加,新鳞片顶端延伸为一长披针形的膜质附属物(长2—3厘米,宽1厘米),鳞片厚,近三角状圆锥形,内面的长2.5—4厘米,粗1厘米,外面的宽三角形,宽达3厘米。茎圆柱形,绿色,背淡,无毛。叶绿色,最下1对生茎中部,对生,向上为散生,对生或轮生,长圆状披针形,长7—10厘米,宽1—3厘米,最下1对较宽短;无柄,先端钝至长渐尖,不卷曲,平行脉多数。花单朵,稀2朵;苞片叶状,1—3枚;花梗长4—5厘米,淡绿色;花被钟状,黄绿色,有紫褐色斑点,浓淡不一,长圆状匙形,先端浑圆,基部略狭,长4—5厘米,内3片宽1.3—1.5厘米,外3片宽1.1—1.2厘米,蜜腺窝在背面稍凸出;雄蕊长约为花被片的一半,花丝白色,长1.5厘米,向下较宽;无毛;有小乳突;花药基着,线形,长7.5毫米,顶部有锥状尖凸;子房绿色,圆柱形,长1.2厘米;花柱连柱头长2.3厘米,狭线状漏斗状,上部粗2—3毫米,柱头裂片3,近直立,长1—6毫米。蒴果长圆形,无宿存花被,长4厘米,宽1.7厘米,果翅狭,宽约1毫米。种子褐色,多数,圆形,连翅成方形,扁平,边缘有膜翅,长、宽3—4毫米,叠生。果梗长达7厘米。花期5月,果7月成熟。

  产滇西北(香格里拉、丽江),生于海拔3000—3900米的林下或草地;四川冕宁和西藏东南部也有。

  鳞茎供药用,止咳化痰、泄热散结。
