学名：Lama glama
驼羊是南美土产四种骆驼形动物中最有名的一种，也是西半球人民驯化为驮兽的唯一一种动物。它们一千多年前就被驯化，野外早已没有。
肩高约1.2米，体重70-140公斤。身上长着优质的浓密长毛。在海拔5000米的崎岖山路上，一般动物难以负重行走，驼羊却能驮96公斤重物一天行走26公里。
在西班牙征服期，银矿曾使用30万只驼羊。它们对当地印第安人非常有用，全身几乎100%可利用：肉可食，毛可纺线织衣，皮可做鞋，脂肪可制蜡。甚至粪也能晾干后做燃料。
驼羊属
有3种---原驼（L.guanicoe）、 驼羊（L.glama）、 羊驼（L.pacos），都分布在南美的西部和南部，栖息在从地平面直到海拨5000米高的半沙漠地区。
骆驼科
本科特征是头小颈长，腿部细长，每足两趾（第三、四趾），有厚肉趾，趾尖有指甲状蹄，胃3室，反刍。
