描述XyrisL.黄眼草属，黄眼草科，约250种，分布于热带和亚热带地区，我国有7种，产西南部至东部，南部尤盛，其中最常见的为黄眼草X.indicaL.。多年生草本，喜生于湿地上，簇生或散生，有基生、线状的叶和一黄色的头状花序生于花茎之顶；花两性，稍左右对称，小，为一黄褐色、革质的苞片所覆盖；苞片紧密地覆瓦状排列；萼片3，大小不等，抱持着花瓣柄，侧面2枚较小，颖状，背面一枚较阔，帽状；花瓣3，具柄；雄蕊3，与花冠裂片对生，有时有3枚互生的退化雄蕊；子房上位，1室或不完全的3室，有3个侧膜胎座，花柱基部无附属物，胚珠多数；花柱3裂；果为一蒴果；种子小，多数，线形。
