m99是巴雷特公司于1999年推出的新产品。m99的旋转后拉式枪机是重新设计的，枪管也是重新设计的，巴雷特公司以往设计的.50枪管是29英寸长，但m99的枪管增加到33英寸，为了增加枪管重量以最大限度地增加远距离的精确性，没有再在枪管表面刻槽。机匣顶部有ris导轨，用以安装各类瞄准镜。m99没有弹匣，巴雷特公司设计这支只能单发的枪是为了提供一支前所未有的高精度.50狙击步枪。
