释士璋字原璞。郡之海宁王氏子也。生即伏犀贯顶。目炯炯黑如点漆。幼即膻荤弗御。父母或阴试之辄呕不止。喜读佛书。邻有寺僧。请其父曰。此释氏种也。盍乞师我。父怒曰。吾儿如芬陀花。非若伦也。遂舍入传法寺受五戒。时翰林侍制柳贯尝憩寺舍。爱师乃授以经史。亲为敷绎奥义。师闻迎刃即解。年十九剃发为大僧。我庵无法师主上天竺。师将担簦趋侍。忽梦游宝所。有大菩萨教其胡跪作礼口宣忏文。觉而思之乃普贤净行品偈文。果见我庵刮目视之。凡天台教观一家章义以次授师。而志虑专一力学无怠至忘寝食。我庵阴鉴其勤常以远大期之。时有天心莹素亢不服人。故世称义虎。亦艳师行约共灯火。日与磨切诘难极于毫芒。众曰双璧。久之我庵化去。东溟日公补其席陶冶学者。选师为开科。命知宾客继领忏摩事。元至正十三年受命住持栖真。而寺与南竺演福二刹相邻。时有大用才绝宗继二老居之。师尤以学未足日往扣焉。凡教观之奥偏圆本迹之微一一无不条柝。所以尝对众叹曰。佛法教藏渺如烟海。固非独善所能究尽。使吾自画而不进。其能免于孤陋之诮乎。二十年移主旌德。元季天下兵戈大乱。人咸计自藏。师独专心寺事。不以世难自易厥志。其彰善瘅恶风彩为之改观。日纳净众讲演经疏。时无虚晷。至我。皇明洪武集庆虚席。郡守李公请就提唱教乘。未几中书被旨。俾浙之东西五府名刹住持咸集京师。共甓天界立善世院。以统僧众同监董其役。诸方耆德皆莫知所为。师独出方略具有条叙。时十万之众咸仿法之。是年六月既望预知时至。召弟子嘱以后事。至十七日安然坐蜕。寿四十六。腊二十八。阇维其弟子圆觉一印升元克勤等函其骨。建塔于龙井辩才法师塔南。师之器局潇洒论议慷慨据直道而不徇流俗。每征诸刹而树徒植党者皆为怨府。师乃誓不剃畜弟子。学者谒欲依附。必励言拒之。不妄录一人。
