植物形态：一年生草本，高达1.5米。茎圆柱形，被灰褐色刚毛。叶互生，有长柄，托叶阔披针形或披针形，叶片掌状5~9深裂，裂片狭长，长椭圆状披针形或卵状椭圆形，长达17厘米，先端渐尖，边缘粗锯齿，表面绿色，背面淡绿色，幼时密生黄褐色细毛，老则无毛或几无毛，沿脉有细毛。叶脉放射状，直达裂片的尖端。花黄色，单生叶腋，萼5裂，花瓣5片，雄蕊多数，单体，子房上位，5室。蒴果长椭圆形，有5棱，密生刚毛，熟时5纵裂。 生态分布：产我国长江流域至南部和西南各省；多生于沟谷丛林边，山坡或溪边丛林中，或栽植于村落园圃边。 药用部分：花、种子、根或茎入药，夏秋采收。 用途：性味甘、滑、微寒，无毒。和血，润肠，除邪火。治红崩、白带、吐血、大便结燥。花与根功用相同。用量：根5钱~1两。
