【来源】
力萝藦科植物古钩藤的根。
【植物形态】
古钩藤 攀援灌木。单叶对生；革质；长圆形或椭圆形，长9～14厘米，宽3～5.5厘米，基部阔楔形或近圆形，先端钝或近圆形，具小尖，全缘，上面无毛，下面幼时被灰白色短茸毛，老时无毛；具柄。花顶生或腋生，为疏散的聚伞花序；花冠黄色，5裂，裂片狭披针形，长约8毫米；副花冠具鳞片5，棒状。蓇葖果圆柱状，从中部以上渐细尖，长约10厘米，质硬，直径1～1.5厘米。种子黑色，长圆形，长约1厘米，压扁，顶部有长毛。花期5月。 多生于阳坡，攀援于其他树上。分布广东、广西。贵州、云南等地。
【化学成分】
根含强心甙白叶藤甙。
【药理作用】
云南产白叶藤根中提出的白叶藤甙，可使蛙心停止于收缩状态，使在位兔心及离体豚鼠心脏收缩力加强、心率减慢，继而出现心率不整，最后停止于收缩期，豚鼠心电图观察表现典型的强心甙作用。最小致死量(鸽法)2.914±0.37毫克／公斤，与侧金盏花甙2.829土O.023毫克／公斤接近。24小时后测定其平均蓄积率(鸽)为32.5%，较洋地黄毒甙蓄积性低，但较毒毛旋花子甙G高。
【性味】
《云南中草药》："淡，平，有毒。"
【功用主治】
活血，消肿，镇痛。治跌打伤，骨折，腰疼腹痛，水肿。 ①《云南中草药》："舒筋活络，消肿镇痛。" ②治水肿。(《药学学报》10(9)：561，1963) ③《广西药植名录》："发散，催乳。"
【用法与用量】
内服：研末，0.5～1分；或浸酒。
【选方】
治跌打损伤，骨折，腰痛，腹痛：半架牛根研末，每服一分；或每用二钱，泡酒二斤，每次五毫升，日服三次。(《云南中草药》)
