元代杂剧作家。字大用，大名开州（今河北省大名县）人。生卒年不详。与《录鬼簿》作者钟嗣成的父亲为莫逆之交。其创作活动大约在13世纪80年代至14世纪30年代之间。他历任学官，做过钓台书院山长。曾受权豪人物诬陷，虽获辨明，但再也没有起用，后客死常州。钟嗣成〔凌波曲〕吊词中说："豁然胸次扫尘埃，久矣声名播省台。先生志在乾坤外,敢嫌天地窄,更词章压倒元白。凭心地,据手策,数当今，无比英才。"可窥见其思想、性格之一斑。他擅长诗文词曲,作有杂剧 6种,今存《死生交范张鸡黍》和《严子陵钓鱼台》 2种。《死生交范张鸡黍》有《元曲选》和《元刊杂剧三十种》本，取材于《后汉书·独行传》，写范式与张劭交友的故事，歌颂他们重然诺、讲信义、死生不渝的品质。剧中人物多有愤世疾俗的唱词，讽刺那些凭借各种关系而官居高位的谄佞之臣,流露出作者对现实的不满。《严子陵钓鱼台》即《严子陵垂钓七里滩》，有《元刊杂剧三十种》本。写东汉光武帝刘秀曾与隐士严光友善，他做了皇帝以后屡次征召严光入朝。严光不慕富贵，仍在富春江七里滩垂钓，表现了"隐居乐道"的思想。
