原英国“尊严”级航母，1943年开工，中途停工十年之久，直至1957年印度购入方继续建造，1961年服 役。是亚洲的第一艘航空母舰。1979、1983年两度改造后，1987-88年再度改装，加装了滑翘式甲板。
