| 《呼啸山庄》 Wuthering Heights 英国长篇小说。E.勃朗特1847年著。希斯克利夫是山庄老主人去世前几年领回的吉普赛弃儿，长大后浑身充满了原始的野性和自由的活力。他和主人的女儿嘉瑟琳相爱，引起她哥哥的嫉恨；门第的观念、金钱的迷惑，诱使她终于决定嫁给一个有钱的地主。这一切使希斯克利夫感到屈辱，愤然出走。几年后致富而归，嘉瑟琳却因不能与他结合而凄惨死去。希斯克利夫在孤独、绝望中决定实行疯狂的报复。他用赌博从嘉瑟琳哥哥手中夺走山庄并逼死了他，把他的儿子变成愚昧的奴仆，又和嘉瑟琳丈夫的妹妹结婚，虐待她，并夺走其财产。目的达到后，他也寻死葬在嘉瑟琳的墓旁。作者认为，大自然赋予人的那种伟大自由的精神不能受到侵犯，一旦受伤害就必须去反抗、复仇，而在现代文明社会里反抗往往就是作恶，于是出现悲剧。小说采用景物烘托、倒叙和山庄老管家给借宿人说故事的方式，使这部充满奇异想象力的作品变得十分真实、可信，更超脱现实环境和时空观念，具有神秘色彩。 |
