This paper illustrates the initial sliding of a cut slope with over consolidated fissured clay by considering the influence of the over consolidated horizental stress on the cut slope.

For over-consolidated strata,land subsidence usually occurs under the critical condition that initial additional stress is larger than over-consolidation stress.

According to the author′s experience this paper presents the main problems which should be regarded in laboratory soil tests,including sample preparation,the oven temperature selection in water content test, level consolidation test,direct shearing test and so on.

With free piston thin wall sampling technique and vacuum freeze drying method,undisturbed and remolded samples in different consolidation stress were made.
