在腭裂手术后1个月开始，以帮助发出正确的语音，应在语言训练医师的指导下进行。腭咽闭合功能训练，如按摩软腭、练习发“啊”音，做吹气动作(如吹气球、口琴及管乐器等)及有节制的呼气练习等。使软腭变软、延长及上抬，有助恢复正常软腭及腭咽闭合的功能。发音训练，在软腭活动及腭咽闭合功能正常后开始练习发单音，先元音后辅音，在正确发出单音的基础上再进行单字的拼音练习，只有掌握了单字的正确拼音后才练习简单语句和简短谈话，速度应由慢变快，直至与正常人发音相同为止。
