京张铁路

    中国自北京丰台,经居庸关、沙城、宣化至张家口的铁路。全长201.2千米。现为北京至包头铁路线的首段。京张铁路是清政府排除英国、俄国等殖民主义者的阻挠,委派詹天佑为京张铁路局总工程师(后兼任京张铁路局总办),于1905年9月开工修建的  ,1909年8月建成通车。这条铁路工程艰巨,如南口经居庸关、八达岭至康庄段地形复杂,为了穿越燕山山脉军都山的陡山大沟,在22千米线路区段内采用了3.3%的坡道和“之字线”线路,并开凿隧道4座,其中八达岭隧道长达1091米。
