鼢鼠
  鼢鼠亚科是适应地下生活的啮齿类,尾短,眼睛很小,视力差,外耳退化,仅是小的皮褶。鼢鼠主要分布于我国,也见于蒙古和西伯利亚,栖息于森林边远、草原和农田,白天居住在地洞中,晚上偶尔会到地面活动,以植物的根、茎、种子为食,在洞穴中储存大量食物。鼢鼠挖洞速度极快,洞穴系统复杂,分支多,平时地面没有明显出口,但附近有不规则的土堆。

  马岛鼠亚科因分布于马达加斯加岛而得名,是岛上仅有的啮齿类,共有十多种。马岛鼠种类虽然不多,但是非常多样,有树栖也有陆栖,还有跳跃行走的成员,其食性也从植物到昆虫均有。有人认为岛上这些不同的鼠类不是单一起源,可以将马岛鼠亚科取消而将其成员分别置于其他类群。
