| 钱伟长（1912～ ） 中国物理学家，数学家，政治活动家。中国科学院院士。1912年10月9日生于江苏无锡。1935年毕业于清华大学物理系。1940年赴加拿大多伦多大学应用数学系留学，1942年获博士学位。后在美国加利福尼亚州理工学院喷气推进研究所任研究员。1946年回国。历任清华大学教授及北京大学、燕京大学兼职教授，清华大学教务长、副校长，中国科学院力学研究所副所长，上海工业大学校长及中国管理科学研究院名誉院长、广东暨南大学名誉校长。曾任中国力学学会副理事长，中国中文信息学会理事长，《应用数学和力学》主编，美国《应用数学进展》、《国际工程科学月刊》编委，《简明不列颠百科全书》中文版的中美编审委员会的中方代表，波兰科学院院士，中国民主同盟中央副主席，全国政协常务委员、副主席，香港基本法起草委员会委员、澳门基本法起草委员会副主任等职。主要从事力学、应用数学等方面的研究与教学及教育组织领导工作并取得突出成就，是中国科学院力学研究所、上海市数学和力学研究所等多个研究所和学术机构的创建人之一，为中国力学等研究和科学、教育事业的发展作出了突出贡献。在板壳问题的内禀统一理论研究方面，首次将张量分析及微分几何用于弹性板壳研究并建立了薄板薄壳的统一理论，提出了线壳理论的非线性微分方程组，国际上称为钱伟长方程。在薄板大挠度问题的摄动和奇异摄动法研究方面，首次成功地用系统摄动法处理非线性方程，国际上仍用此法处理这类问题。在广义变分原理和有限元理论研究方面取得多项突出成果，其广义变分原理和环壳分析解等成果被誉为具有中国独特方法的重要贡献。在应用力学、应用数学以及汉字文字改革、汉字信息处理等研究方面取得多项重要成果，研制成功新颖中文编码及计算机汉字输入方案(钱码)，对大功率电池的设计理论、电机计算理论等有独特见解。对中国教育、科技、经济和港口建设等方面提出过很多有效建议。在发展教育、培养科技人才方面做了大量卓有成效的工作。发表研究论文160余篇，并有《弹性板壳的内禀理论》等专著20种。
