形态特征:豆科棘豆属多年生草本植物，高20-30厘米。无地上茎或茎极短缩。叶为具轮生小叶的复叶,两面密生长柔毛。花梗长，顶生总状花序、花淡红紫色。荚果披针状矩圆形,先端具长而尖的嚎,表面密被长柔毛。花期6-7月，果期7-9月。
生境分布:生于，草原地带和草甸草原群落中，砾石质和沙质土壤上多见。分布于我国东北、华北。蒙古、东西伯利亚也有。
用途:全草入药、能清北、毒、消肿、祛风湿，主治流感、咽喉肿痛、痈疮肿毒、瘀血肿胀。也可饲用。
