- 我们知道，在教育活动中存在着“教”与“学”两种活动，更确切地说，是“教”与“学”两种活动构成教育。虽然，参与到教育活动之中的所有人都有“教”与“学”的责任或义务，但各自的职责重点不同，一部分人主要以“教”为职责，一部分人主要以“学”为职责。
在教育活动中以教为职责的人是教育者。
教育者是指直接对求教者的素质发展起影响作用的人，包括学校的教师、管理人员、兼职教师、家庭教师、家长。其中学校教师是教育者的主体和代表。
教育过程不同于对人的身心发展发生影响的其他过程。它是教育者的有目的的活动过程，所以，离开了教育者及其有目的、有意识的活动，也就谈不上什么教育。教育者是教育实践活动中的人的因素，而且是一个基本要素。
教育者不仅是教育实践活动的一个基本要素，而且是教育实践活动的主体，他把受教育者作为“教”的对象，以教育影响为手段，把引导和促进受教育者身心的发展变化作为活动目的，力求使自己“教”的对象的身心发生合乎自己社会的变化。因此说，教育者作为教育活动中人的因素，是教育实践活动的主体，更确切地说是“教”的主体。
教育者的主体性有多方面的表现：a教育者是教育活动的设计者、实施者和组织者，对整个教育活动起领导作用；b教育者是学生学习活动的指导者、帮助者和评价矫正者，对整个学习活动起着校正方向、调整内容、激发动力、教给方法的作用；c教育者的教育反映着社会的需求和人格，控制着整个教育过程的推进和教育内容的设定，因而教育者教的质量在很大程度上制约着学生的发展质量；d教育者的教育活动内容影响着学生学习活动的内容，控制着学生活动的时间和效果，因而在教育活动中居主导地位。
