性质:周期系第Ⅷ族铂族元素。原子序数77。稳定同位素:191,193。原子量192.217。银白色金属。硬而脆。密度22.4。熔点2450℃。沸点约4500℃。硬度和熔点都比铂高。主要化合价+2、+4和+6。化学性质很稳定。不溶于酸,仅微溶于王水、氯水和熔融的碱是最耐腐蚀的金属。用于制科学仪器、热电偶、电阻线等。高硬度铱铂合金常用于制笔尖。国际标准米尺是用10%铱和90%铂的合金制成的。铱的金属互化物,如ZrIr2、ThIr2等皆为超导体。还可用作有机合成的催化剂。存在于铱锇矿中。可由铂金属的自然合金分出。
