亦称舰载声纳。分为潜艇声纳和水面舰艇声纳两类。潜艇声纳主要用于搜索、 识别、 跟踪水面舰船和潜艇，保障鱼雷、深水炸弹和战术导弹攻击，探测水雷等水中障碍，进行水下战术通信和导航。现代潜艇声纳在良好水文条件下(包括利用深海声道)，潜艇低速航行时发现舰船目标的最大距离：被动方式全向搜索达60海里，自动跟踪20海里;主动方式全向搜索为10海里,定向探测30海里。水面舰艇声纳装备于大、中型水面战斗舰艇、猎潜艇、反水雷舰艇和某些勤务舰船。主要用于搜索、识别、跟踪潜艇,保障对潜艇实施攻击，探测水中障碍,与己方潜艇进行水声通信，对敌方的鱼雷攻击进行警戒或诱骗。现代水面舰艇声纳在良好水文条件下，舰艇航速24节以下时，发现潜艇的最大距离：采用直达声传播为10～15海里；利用海底反射为15～20海里；利用深海声道为30～35海里。为了监视高航速低噪声的核动力战略导弹潜艇，一些国家正在发展一种反潜预警用的拖曳线列阵声纳系统,水听器组装在拖缆上,组成长达数百米的线阵，由舰船拖曳于尾后，当拖带舰艇低速航行时，据称其发现距离可达数百海里。
