植物形态：常绿灌木，高达3米。小枝纤弱，徒长枝有棘刺，叶互生，革质，具油腺点，叶片椭圆形，长6~10厘米，宽2.5~4厘米，两端渐尖，全缘或有波状锯齿，上面深绿色，下面淡绿色，中脉稍凸起；箭叶狭长。两性花，腋生，白色，芳香，花萼小，5裂，花瓣5片，质厚，雄蕊多数，花丝合生；子房上位，花柱粗大，早落，柱头头状。柑果扁圆形或圆形，直径约4厘米，顶端稍凹入，基部圆形，果皮朱红色；内瓤7瓣，果肉赤橙色，汁橙黄色。种子卵形，先端有短咀状突起。 生态分布：产我国南部各省。 药用部分：叶（桔叶）、果皮（陈皮）、种子及桔络均入药，秋季采收。 用途：叶性味苦，平；能行肝气，消肿毒，倒胸肋逆气，治乳痈，乳癌，乳痛等。皮性味辛、苦、温；能理气，健脾胃，燥湿化痰，治胸腹胀满，食欲不振，呕吐腹泻，咳嗽等症。核性味苦，平；能消肿止痛。桔络性味苦，平；能通络，顺气，活血，化痰。用量：核1~3钱；桔络5分~1钱，果皮1~3钱，叶1~2钱。
