Hermeneutics of Medicine is the application of hermeneutics in the realm of medicine; it is a new realm of edge-cutting discipline between medicine and philosophy.

The author intends to employ three principles of philosophical hermeneutics to illustrate the necessity of retranslating literary masterpieces—the historicity of understanding,the incompleteness of history and the indeterminacy of textual meanings and the fusion of horizons.

Drawn on the three American reading theories and observed from the understanding theory of hermeneutics,reading comprehension is in essence a process of "fusion of horizons" of the reader and the English text.
