物理学术语。发生γ衰变的放射性核素的母核主要发生β-衰变,经过β-衰变的子核还有多余的能量,这部分多余的能量以光子的形式放出,所产生的γ光子是单方向的,也是单个的,故称为单光子。单光子的概念是相对于双光子而言的。在核医学领域中,单光子的检测远较双光子应用广泛。
