The previous researches show that there is a certain degree of correlation between first language and foreign language reading attitudes.

This study explores non-English majors attitudes and frequency regarding English extensive reading, including the factors that have determining influence on students reading attitudes and frequency.

The results showed: (1) Reciprocal teaching with three strategies had remarkable positive influence on the facets of question strategy and reading attitude;(2) Reciprocal teaching with four strategies and five strategies displayed significant positive influence on reading comprehension,question and summarizing strategy,comprehension monitoring and reading at.

The linguistic threshold hypothesis(LTH) and the linguistic interdependence hypothesis(LIH) disagree on the positive transfer of L1 reading ability to L2 in that the former assumes that L1 reading ability is transferable only when a certain level of L2 proficiency is first achieved,whereas the latter posits that L1 reading ability is transferable despite L2 proficiency.

In this dissertation, through researching Chinese mother tongue reading materials and American mother tongue reading materials in view of postmodern course, self-consciously analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences in Chinese and American mother tongue reading materials.
