| 白先勇（1937～ ） 美籍华人作家。广西桂林人。1948年到香港 ，1952年去台湾，1956年考入台南成功大学水利系，翌年改入台湾大学外文系。1958年开始发表作品。1960年与同学组织现代文学社，创办《现代文学》杂志。1963年赴美国爱荷华大学作家工作室从事创作研究，1965年获硕士学位，随后任加州大学圣塔巴巴拉分校教授，讲授中国语言文学课程。白先勇的小说，早期作品都收入小说集《寂寞的十七岁》 ,有明显模仿西方现代派小说的痕迹，笼罩着虚无颓废的色调。留学美国期间，创作了被称为“纽约客”系列的近10篇小说，倾诉留学生感时伤怀的文化乡愁和精神痛苦。1965年以后的作品收入小说集《台北人》,描写了 40年代末从大陆退居台湾的国民党达官贵人以及他们的依附者的没落命运。作者以悲天悯人的情怀，叙写战乱带来的人生悲剧和爱情悲剧，为旧时代的死亡唱出了挽歌。现实主义的创作态度，又使他在真实描绘时代风貌、刻画人物的音容笑貌中，显示了历史进程的不可逆转。1983年发表长篇小说《孽子》，描写被家庭和社会抛弃的年轻人的悲惨命运，揭示了同性恋者的心灵世界。
