| 林语堂(1895～1976) 中国作家。原名和乐，改名玉堂、语堂，笔名毛驴、宰予、岂青等。福建龙溪人。1912年入上海圣约翰大学。1919年后留学美国、德国。研究语言学，获哈佛大学硕士、莱比锡大学博士学位。1923年回国，在北京大学、北京女子师范大学任教，因支持爱国学生运动，被北洋政府通缉。1926年去厦门大学任教，后专事著述。1932年后陆续创办《论语》、《人间世》、《宇宙风》，以推动小品文的创作，成为论语派主要人物。30年代初，曾参加中国民权保障同盟。1936年旅居美国 。1947年任联合国教科文组织美术与文学主任。1954年任新加坡南洋大学校长。1966年定居台北。他一生撰写的传记、散文、论著、文选及译作等共30余部，重要的有《剪拂集》、《开明英文读本》、《开明英文文法》、《大荒集》、《我的话》、《生活的艺术》、《吾国与吾民》、《无所不谈》、《京华烟云》、《风声鹤唳》和《语堂文存》等。
